With the new year just around the corner, it’s tradition to make a New Year’s resolution. Or is it? The latest Ipsos poll shows that only 38% of Americans will make a New Year’s resolution. Ipsos is a global leader in market and opinion research. According to Ipsos, over half of those who did make a resolution quit less than six months later. The biggest resolution for 2020 involves finance related issues bringing in 50%. Health, diet, working out and social circles falling next in line. To get an idea of how locals in the Sheridan area feel about New Year’s resolutions, Sheridan Media got these responses.

Having a New Year’s resolution typically involves setting a goal that improves one’s life and the lives of those around them. So is not having a resolution a bad thing? Not at all. Setting goals is what’s important and if that happens January 2nd or June 18th they’re both equally important and beneficial. According to Dr. Jennice Vilhauer in an article she wrote in Psychology Today she states that, “…goals are important no matter how many times you fail.Psychology research suggests that the success rates for those setting resolutions are 10 times higher than the success rate of people who want to change but do not make resolutions.” She goes on to say that the vast majority of resolutions are positive life changing goals. So if you haven’t made a resolution for 2020, it’s ok. If you have made a resolution do the best you can and don’t feel bad if you fall short. Afterall, there’s always next year.
