A request from the Johnson County Rural Health Board to allow them to determine if a school district-owned piece of property would be suitable for a proposed ambulance barn was defeated by the Johnson County School Board Monday night.

At an earlier school board meeting, Rural Health Board members Marilyn Connolly and Jim Hicks talked with the school board about land next to the school administration building they were interested in acquiring to possibly build an ambulance barn.

The school board, at Monday’s meeting, discussed the matter, which if passed by the board, would have allowed the Rural Health District onto the property to perform a number of tests on the land.

During the discussions, concerns raised were that the healthcare district wanted a 60-month option for purchase of the land, which the school board was uncomfortable with.

Facilities Director Kim Glasgow reminded the board that if the school district sold the land they would potentially receive less funding from the state.

On the vote, the motion failed to receive a majority vote and failed.
