Protect and serve may be the general motto of law enforcement agencies, but sometimes it’s helpful to meet with the public to find out how they can protect and serve better.
On Thursday (July 22nd) Sheridan County Sheriff Allen Thompson and two of his deputies were in the town of Big Horn to meet with the public over some chips and dip.
Sheriff Thompson says the various areas of Sheridan County have similarities and differences in terms of their needs and wants, but when it comes to the town of Big Horn and the surrounding area, there’s one thing missing when it comes to providing law enforcement.
“There’s not a central government in Big Horn, so we don’t have that constant open line of communication in the Big Horn area, because it’s kind of a bigger geographical area with no centralized government, as we do in the Tongue River Valley with centralized government.”
Sheriff Thompson adds his department tries to hold an event like this every 3 months or so, but because of the Covid pandemic, setting up such events has provided challenges.
