CWD Confirmed in New Hunt Area
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department has alerted news outlets to the confirmed presence of chronic wasting disease in Deer Hunt Area 141 in the Pinedale Region.
Deer Hunt Area 141 is bordered by CWD-positive deer hunt areas 128 (positive in 2016), 142 (positive in 2020), 154 (positive in 2022) and 155 (positive in 2022).
To ensure the public is informed, Game and Fish announces when CWD is found in a new hunt area.
The department reports that CWD is 100% fatal to infected deer, elk and moose. Continued monitoring of CWD over time is important to help Game and Fish understand the potential impacts of the disease, as well as evaluate future management actions.
Each year, hunters assist in data collection by submitting samples for free CWD testing, especially when hunting in priority or mandatory CWD testing areas. Game and Fish has a video showing hunters how to collect a sample. Hunters should consult Page 7 of the 2026 antelope, deer and elk hunting regulations for rules on transporting harvested animals. Test results are available through a hunter’s Game and Fish account.
A map of CWD endemic areas, along with more information, is available on the Game and Fish’s CWD webpage.
If an animal appears sick or injured, please contact the nearest Game and Fish Regional Office. Here in Sheridan, call (307) 672-7418.
