Two Illegal Immigrants Sentenced to Prison in District Court
Two illegal immigrants from Venezuela were sentenced to prison for felony theft at a hearing Thursday in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
Two illegal immigrants that are part of Venezuelan crime organization will spend the next 4 to 7 years in prison in Wyoming after Fourth Judicial District Court Judge Ben Kirven accepted the terms of a plea agreement reached between the defendants and the State at a sentencing hearing in District Court.
For the charge of felony theft, Judge Kirven sentenced both Keiner Hormidas Sanchez Lopez and Yezzermy Yemar Perez Escobar to serve 4 to 7 years in prison and to pay joint and several restitution in the amount of $41,161 to Citco Federal Credit Union in Sheridan. Both Perez Escobar and Sanchez Lopez were also ordered to pay $275 in court costs and assessments. Sanchez Lopez was given 404 days of credit for time served of presentence confinement and Perez Escobar received 312 days of credit. Both defendants were remanded to the custody of the Sheridan County Detention Center pending transfer to prison.
Prosecuting Attorney for the State, Christopher LaRosa said that he opted to recommend to the court that the two men serve their sentence in Wyoming, then be deported, rather than just having them be deported because he wanted to send a message that Sheridan is not a sanctuary city for illegals and they deserve to be punished before being removed from the U.S.
According to court documents, Perez Escobar and Sanchez Lopez stole $31,500 from the outside ATM machine at Citco Federal Credit Union in Sheridan on the evening of November 28, 2024. They obtained the cash by using a method that is referred to as “jackpotting”, which is the act of manipulating the ATM—both physically and digitally—to trick it into dispensing large amounts of cash on command.
