David Johnson Pleads Guilty To Vehicular Homicide In Sheridan
A Sheridan man has admitted to hitting and killing an Australian woman with his vehicle at a major intersection north of downtown Sheridan.
David Johnson has pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of vehicular homicide.
As part of a plea deal, prosecutors will seek a sentence of no more than 1 year in jail, with all but 60 days suspended, followed by 1 year of probation.
According to court documents, in late May 2025, Johnson hit and killed 65-year old Julie Fitzsimons with the vehicle he was driving, while he was making a right turn from West 5th Street to North Main Street.
Criminal law states that a misdemeanor charge of vehicular homicide, would indicate that Johnson was driving negligently, and not in an aggressive or reckless manner, which are the conditions needed in order for the charge to be a felony.
He will be sentenced in mid-April.
Johnson’s probation will be served concurrent (at the same time) with a probation period that he is currently serving, for unrelated charges of domestic battery and interference with a peace officer.
