Roger Tagtow

Roger George Tagtow, 82, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025, at the V.A. Medical Center in Sheridan, WY with his loving family by his side.

Roger George Tagtow was born to Helen (Rogers) and George Tagtow on November 9, 1943, in Chamberlain, South Dakota. Roger’s early years were spent on the banks of the Missouri River learning from his Dad, a true river rat, commercial fishing, trapping, and hunting. Roger attended DeGrey School, walking uphill both ways with his sisters Marie (Bellander) and Sandy (Smith).  Roger’s Dad died in 1951. His Mom later remarried and Kim Mel Byrum was added to the family. Roger was drafted in the Army in 1967 and received an honorable hardship discharge in 1968 upon the death of his stepdad. He met and later married Bonnie Cantonwine in 1969.  Roger and Bonnie had 2 daughters, Jaymi was born in 1971, and Julie was born in 1973. Roger ranched and farmed in the DeGrey area until 1977 when the family moved to Wyoming. Roger’s remaining years in Wyoming he did construction and truck driving. He was proficient at many hobbies, which he enjoyed to the very end. Woodworking, leatherwork, making knives, and his biggest love was gun collecting. We are thankful to each have pieces of his work.
