LuLu Clara Fischer
Lulu (Lu) Clara Beck Fischer, 92, of Sheridan, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born May 10, 1933, as the eldest of five children (two sisters – Maureen and Aileen; two brothers – Francis and Claude) in Randalia, Iowa, to William and Inez Llewellyn.
She went to grade school and graduated from high school in Randalia, Iowa, in 1950, where she played the French horn in the band and lettered in basketball. In 1950, she met John Ernest (Jack) Beck, and they eloped and married on June 2, 1951, in Rockford, Illinois. While living in Rockford, she was a housewife, and they had four children: Jaynee, Joanne, Carl, and Paul. In 1972, they moved to Ranchester, Wyoming, where they owned and operated the Ranchester Mercantile until 1981 when Jack decided to retire. With the sale of the Mercantile, they built a house in a subdivision southeast of Parkman, Wyoming.
After Jack died in October 1983, Lu went to work, initially driving a pilot car for several years before finding employment at Bi-Rite Drug Store in Sheridan, while continuing to live in the house outside of Parkman. Lu worked at Bi-Rite until it closed in the early 1990s. With the closure of Bi-Rite, she went on to work as a receptionist at Groshart Eye Clinic. While working at Groshart Eye Clinic, Lu moved to Sheridan. She worked at Groshart Eye Clinic until she retired. On May 9, 2001, she married Frank Fischer and moved back to Ranchester. In retirement, Lu and Frank spent time traveling, hunting, and seeing the sights.
Lu was blessed with two grandsons, one granddaughter, and five great-grandsons. She was fun-loving and had a witty, dry humor and enjoyed traveling and new adventures.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, William and Inez Llewellyn; her brother Claude Llewellyn; her sister Aileen Llewellyn; her first husband, John Beck; her second husband, Frank Fischer; her eldest daughter, Jaynee (Ed) Gourley; and her second daughter, Joanne Ottema. She is survived by her two sons, Carl (Aurelia) Beck of Kent, Washington, and Paul Beck of Muskogee, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Joshua (Lisa) Gourley of Sheridan, Mollie Spielman of Mandan, North Dakota, and Nathan Ottema of Gillette, Wyoming; and five great-grandsons, Keaton, Koltyn, and Karson Spielman, and Stetson and Mason Ottema.
A Celebration of Life to remember and honor Lu will be held in the summer of 2026 at a time to be announced later.
