News ReleaseThe Environmental Assessment and Draft Decision Notice for the Pole Creek Vegetation Management Project in the Bighorn National Forest, Powder River Ranger District, will be released to the public June 11, 2024. The project includes proposals to authorize forest resilience treatments, including commercial timber harvest, non-commercial fuels treatments, aspen and riparian habitat restoration, and associated activities such as pile burning and temporary road construction. The project is intended to improve forest health, reduce fuel loading, restore aspen and riparian habitats, and reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires.
Partners from the Wyoming State Division of Forestry and Wyoming Game and Fish Department worked collaboratively with Bighorn National Forest specialists to identify project components within the 92,000 acre project area. A legal notice is set to be published in the Casper Star Tribune on June 11, 2024. This publication begins a 45-day objection period and includes the process to be followed to make an objection. Documents and information will be available on the Bighorn National Forest’s website at https://www.fs.usda.gov/project/bighorn/?project=61834.
