If you need help with tax preparations, the Hub on Smith and AARP can help.

This coming February, AARP Foundation’s Tax-Aide program, the largest free, volunteer-based tax assistance and preparation program in the U.S., will stand ready to assist with state and federal returns.

District Coordinator for the AARP Tax-Aide program, Janet Nies Dill, and HUB on Smith Support Center Manager Helaine McRae made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to remind the public of the service and to start thinking about the upcoming tax season.

Dill explained what the Tax-Aide program is and the lasting partnerships that allow the program to not only continue, but grow over the years.

Although aimed at people 50 years of age and older as well as those with low to moderate incomes, the nationwide tax help program is open to anyone free of charge. One does not need to be an AARP member to take advantage of Tax-Aide knowledgeable volunteers, nor will there be any sales pitch for other services.

The deadline to file a federal return is April 18. McRae told listeners they can begin making appointments right away.

The first appointments will be conducted on Feb. 6, with other appointments meeting every Tuesday and Thursday in the months of February and March.
