Federal Funding Summit Taking Place At Sheridan College

The federal government is making money available, and although not everyone may know how to go about getting it, some people are learning how to get through the red tape.

About 100 people are attending the Wyoming Federal Funding Summit being held this week at Sheridan College.

The event is promoted by Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon and U.S. Senators Cynthia Lummis and John Barasso and is designed to help identify and secure federal funding opportunities.

Lisa Mueller is with NC2 Collaborative which is the group that’s providing most of the information for the summit.

She says it’s not an easy procedure to get a federal grant, but there’s more to gain if approved.

“Federal grants are the hardest grants to write. They’re the most difficult, but they usually have a bigger ask, so you can ask for multi-millions of dollars and with the new funding that’s coming through, this is unprecedented dollars. Over 6-trillion dollars of what we refer to as new federal funding opportunities and it was important for the Senators, both Barasso and Lummis to make sure that we put as many people together assembled in a room to see how we can get our organizations in our communities to those grant applications.”

Mueller adds the application is just the beginning.

Among the concepts being taught at the summit is the cradle to grave concept and how to deal with audits and on-site government inspections should the application be approved and plans move forward.
