Mountain Lion Captured Near Gillette

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department has captured and relocated a mountain lion that was roaming around Gillette.

The Department says during the early morning hours on Tuesday (March 28th), video of the mountain lion was captured on a home security camera in the Chara Hills neighborhood which is located on the southeast side of Gillette.

The homeowner shared the video with a Game Warden, who verified the footage was of a mountain lion and also identified lion tracks in the area.

Wednesday morning the Gillette Police Department was notified of security camera footage of a mountain lion taken at approximately 1 a.m. at a business on 6th Street east of South Douglas Highway. 

Gillette police officers and Game and Fish personnel responded to the area, but did not locate the animal.

Mountain lions can be difficult to locate in some circumstances due to their secretive and solitary nature and the large distances they regularly travel.

Sometime Wednesday afternoon, the mountain lion was found, captured and relocated.

Most of Wyoming is mountain lion and black bear habitat and these animals periodically move through residential areas.

Mountain lions are commonly found in areas where deer, a primary food source, are plentiful and cover is adequate.
