Morning Sports: September 30, 2026

Big Horn HS Volleyball: The Big Horn High School Volleyball team is on a quest to 4-peat as Wyoming Class 2A State Champs, and they’ve been beating some 4A and 3A competition along the way.

The Lady Rams are 23-3 on the season, with the 3 losses happening in the championship match of the Douglas Invitational, one pool play game at the Gillette Invite, and most recently the semi-finals of the Casper Invitational.

Junior Hannah Clark says all BH has to do is make sure they don’t play down to their level of competition.

Head Coach Alli Nikont says this year’s team has a little bit of everything talent-wise and that’s making opponents guess as to what’s going to happen next.

Big Horn is scheduled to play tomorrow at Sheridan and on Saturday at home vs. Sundance.

University of Wyoming Football: A new rivalry will start this weekend as the Wyoming Cowboys travel to Mountain West Conference newcomer, North Dakota State.

The game has been labeled as the Battle of the Basins and will feature a trophy with a drill bit on top of it, to honor the rich history of the petroleum industry in both states.

For the Bison who are 4-0 so far this season, this is their first conference home game, and the team had last week off to prepare.

UW Head Coach Jay Sawvel says the new rivalry and trophy idea is nice, but one priority for the Cowboys is to find a way to take the fans out of the game, because NDSU will be a tough place to play in.

Kickoff in the Fargodome is scheduled for 1:30pm Mountain Time.

Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche start the season today at home vs. Los Angeles.

The puck drops at 8pm.

Major League Baseball Playoffs: Four teams are one win away from moving onto the Divisional Round, after winning yesterday’s games.

Atlanta won at home vs. Philadelphia 5-3, the Chicago White Sox were the only team to win on the road, beating Houston 6-3, the New York Yankees shutout Boston 9-nip, and San Diego blanked the Chicago Cubs 8-zip.

Yesterday’s losers have to win today, to force the deciding Game 3 tomorrow.

If not, the season is over.
