Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey Team Split Home Opening Games With New Coach

The Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey team split their first 2 home games of the season this past weekend against Bozeman.

In Friday’s game, the team was down 3-1 going into the 3rd period, rallied to tie the score, but lost in overtime 4-3.

Sheridan responded better on Saturday by delivering a 6-zip beatdown of the Icedogs.

Hawks Head Coach Blake Billings explains how the team came back and how the players responded after losing the first game.

“It was mostly just following, sticking to the game plan. We were a lot better on the forward check, better in the neutral zone, quicker transitions and we just put pucks in the net. That was kind of what was the difference there.”

Those 2 games were the first 2 for Billings as a coach.

He says it was a trial by fire and he learned a few things both the quick way and the hard way.

“Definitely an adjustment from the first game Friday into Saturday. First time on the bench, figuring out how to work with all the lines we got. We got a lot of talent so figuring out when kids can get out on the ice and spreading the playing time around.”

Sheridan is scheduled to play on Friday at Butte and on Saturday at Bozeman.
