Sheridan HS Basketball: The Sheridan High School boys basketball team is moving right along through the 4A East Conference and have at least a 2 game lead on every other team.
Up next is the road trip to Cheyenne South on Friday and at Laramie on Saturday.
Head Coach Jeff Martini says those 2 teams are not the greatest record wise, but that does not mean the Broncs should kick back and take it easy on the court.
Meanwhile the Sheridan girls were swept at home vs. their 2 opponents this past weekend.
Cheyenne East has established themselves as the team to beat in the conference and with 4 games remaining in the regular season, now there’s no way the Lady Broncs can catch the Lady Thunderbirds for the #1 seed at the 4A East Regional Tournament.
Looking at what’s left on the schedule, Head Coach Chris Wagner says the games against the remaining 4 teams are winnable and that means there’s still time to build momentum heading into the post season.
Of the remaining 4 games, 3 of them are on the road.
Coaches From Big Horn and Buffalo HS Named Finalists For Coach Of The Year: Two High School Coaches from North-Central Wyoming, who have a history of success, have been named as some of the best coaches in the country.
Kirk McLaughlin of Big Horn High School (Boys Track and Field), and Dick Edgcomb of Buffalo (Soccer) are 2 of 12 finalists in Wyoming, to be named a finalist for the National High School Athletic Coaches Association (NHSACA) National Coach of the Year in their respective sport.
Eight finalists are selected in each sport.
Last year, the BH boys track and field team 3-peated as 2A State Champs, with McLaughlin at the helm.
Edgecomb has been the Buffalo HS Soccer Coach since 2007 and has coached the Bison to 3 state titles in his tenure, the most recent being last year in shootout fashion.
Mr. McLaughlin and Mr. Edgcomb will be recognized at the NHSACA National Convention held in Iowa City, Iowa, which is scheduled to take place June 29th, 30th and July 1st.
North Dakota State Football Joins Mountain West Conference: North Dakota State is now officially a football only member within the Mountain West Conference.
The Bison move up from the Football Championship Sub-Division, and per NCAA rules, they are ineligible to play for the Mountain West Conference championship until 2028.
NDSU also can’t play in a bowl game the next 2 seasons, but it is possible to play in a bowl game in 2027, if there’s not enough bowl eligible teams.
North Dakota State Athletic Director Matt Larsen says the team is going to try to pursue a waiver, to bypass the 2-year transition period.
Conference Commissioner Gloria Nevarez says as far as further conference expansion goes, that’s it for this year, as the conference needs to start refiguring out the conference schedule for 2026 and replace the one that was announced a few weeks ago, before NDSU got involved.
Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets lost last night at home vs. Cleveland 119-117.
The Nuggets are next scheduled to play tomorrow at home vs. Memphis, and then have the weekend off for the All-Star Break.
