The Sheridan Memorial Hospital Foundation has already received about 600 donations for expansion of the hospital’s Transitional Care Unit, and the project is now in the design phase.

Information on the project was presented to hospital trustees at their meeting Wednesday night. Rob Forister, the hospital’s director of facility support, said a design for the project has been developed and is now in the hands of the project architect.

Ada Kirven, the hospital foundation’s director of donor relations, reported on the foundation fundraising for the project.

The Transitional Care Unit is a short-term care facility provided by the hospital to help patients transition from the hospital to their homes by providing services such as rehabilitation and skilled nursing care.

Hospital trustees approved expansion of the unit at their meeting in October. At the time, Hospital CEO Mike McCafferty estimated cost of the project at around $5.9 million and said those funds would come from the hospital’s capital funds and fundraising by the hospital foundation.

Also in their meeting Wednesday, hospital trustees approved a resolution committing the board to continue maintaining the hospital’s Level III trauma center and heard updates on COVID-19 vaccinations and hospital finances. Sheridan Media will have stories on those later.
