Scott Stults received a standing ovation for his work as Superintendent in SCDS#2 at the Monday, June 8 board meeting. Stults who resigned from SCSD#2 earlier this year, said this about his time with the school district.

There were several recognitions at the meeting, including district teacher of the year, Birch Haraden of Highland Park. Principal Molly Swan had this to say about Haraden.

Swan added about some of his ‘hands-on’ teaching.

Haraden took the podium and talked about teaching at Highland Park.

In other recognitions, Coach Taylor Kelting talked about the SHS State Champion boy’s track team and a long-standing record that was broken this past year by SHS athletes.

Wyatt Veal attended the board meeting.

Activities director Kasey Garnhart gave an update on the winter and spring activities at SHS.

In the audience comments section, Vickie Farrington, community member, who lives near the high school, expressed safety concerns about the traffic from the SHS parking lot.

Stults responded that they were looking at additional staff parking which might help decrease the traffic going in and out of the high school.

The new graduation standards were discussed and ways SCSD#2 can continue to make sure that their graduation requirements are in line with the new state standards for graduates.

Kristie Garriffa, assistant superintendent, reported to the board on Sheridan High School’s College Connection Center and the work it is doing.

There was an update on the literacy bill, which still has to be signed by Governor Gordon, and an update on the Wellness Program at the schools.

Next meeting will be held July 13 at 6 p.m. at the Central Office.
