The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has granted final approval of Wyoming’s Year one-year application for $205 million in federal funding through the Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP), a five-year initiative authorized through the Working Families Tax Cuts law. Wyoming was initially notified of the award in December 2025 and has since worked with CMS to ensure the state’s plan reflects Wyoming’s healthcare priorities and the needs of its rural and frontier communities.

Governor Gordon, in a media release issued by his office, thanked U.S. Senator John Barrasso for his steadfast leadership and guidance throughout this process and for helping Wyoming secure final approval of its application. The Governor also congratulated Wyoming Department of Health Director Stefan Johansson and his team for their work in shaping Wyoming’s plan to ensure it best meets the state’s current and future healthcare needs while complying with program requirements.

Wyoming submitted an updated proposal to the federal government in early May, and CMS approved the proposal late last week. Wyoming now has until October 31 to obligate the first year of funding and one year to spend those funds. Funding in future years under the five-year program will be based on the state’s approved plan and performance in prior years.
