The Tongue River Fire Department responded to a reported lightning strike near a residence at 294 Brook Street in Ranchester at 7:39 PM on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, during an intense thunderstorm that brought heavy hail and rainfall to the area.

Fire crews were dispatched following reports of a possible lightning strike in the vicinity of the Brook Street residence.

Upon arrival, firefighters conducted a thorough investigation of the property and surrounding area.

No evidence of smoke, fire, or structural damage was discovered during the comprehensive safety assessment.

The severe weather system that moved through the region produced significant hail and heavy rainfall, creating hazardous conditions throughout the community.

The intensity of the storm was sufficient to dislodge storm drain manhole covers in the area, illustrating the power of the weather event.

“Our crew responded quickly to ensure the safety of our residents,” said Fire Chief Jeff Barron. “While no fire or damage was found in this instance, we encourage community members to always report suspected lightning strikes or other emergency situations immediately.”

The Tongue River Fire Department reminds residents that lightning strikes can cause delayed ignition or hidden damage that may not be immediately visible.

Citizens should never hesitate to call for emergency assistance when lightning activity threatens their property.

The department is proud to serve the Ranchester community and surrounding areas, providing rapid emergency response regardless of weather conditions.

All personnel returned to the station safely following the call.
