cvannoyShelley Reinke leading a tour in 2023 Thanks to Shari Shada
Kendrick Mansion is getting ready for the summer season. On April 24, from 9 a.m. until noon, they are holding their Docent (tour guide) Training for anyone interested. Training will be held in the mansion. As most of our tours are for school groups on weekdays, interested persons should have weekday availability.
Shari Shada, Site Superintendent said that the training begins at 9:00 am, where we’ll go over how and why we do what we do, and tricks and tips for giving great tours. After that, we’ll take a tour ourselves and people will have the opportunity to ask lots of questions. The training will conclude about noon or a little before.
Before leaving the training, people can sign up to shadow current guides on upcoming school tours. Then when new guides are ready to try giving a tour of their own, a staff member will shadow them. Once they’ve got it down, they can lead their own groups!
A docent manual is provided, and lots of support is given. We want our docents to enjoy giving tours, and for those taking the tours to have a fun and educational experience!
If people are just curious and aren’t sure if this is for them, they are welcome to come to the training and see if it’s a good fit!
For more info or to sign up for the training, please email sharie.shada@wyo.gov or call the museum at 307-674-4589, so that we can have enough materials ready.
