Sheridan Community Land Trust is inviting the public to unplug with a Discovery Session exploring the Herons at Home.

Participants will join Dr. Julie Rieder of Science Kids during this family-friendly hour as the first 2023 Unplug Discovery Session series celebrates the return of the Great Blue Herons from their winter migration.

Rieder, an ecologist who enjoys teaching about all things Aves, will share stories about the fascinating lives of herons while observing the herons in their natural habitat, preparing their rookery to rear Wyoming’s next heron generation.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program with Sheridan Community Land Trust Executive Director Brad Bauer, Rieder informed host, Floyd Whiting, of the large wingspan of the birds and said there is a bit of neighborhood drama happening at the rookery this season.

Rieder is still unsure if the two species will live to tolerate each other or if the large birds will drive the squating eagles away from the rookery.

Herons at Home will be 5 – 6 p.m. Thursday, April 27. SCLT asks that participants park and meet at the Sportsman’s Warehouse. Dressing for possible inclimate weather is suggested as is bringing water.
