While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Sheridan Police Chief Travis Koltiska and Captain Tom Ringley spoke on the many upcoming events that will be held throughout the city over the course of the summer months. Many of these events will include alcohol consumption.

The SPD does not condemn the legal consumption of alcohol, but the department does want everyone to ensure they have a plan to get home safe.

According to the Wyoming Governor’s Council on Impaired Driving, the Cowboy State averaged 1,100 alcohol-involved crashes over the past 10 years and more than 50 people in Wyoming die every year from alcohol-involved crashes.

All of these deaths and the property damage that also occurs are 100% preventable, Ringley said. The frequency of the DUI offenses in the community have improved over the last few years but the risk offenders pose to public safety has made DUI prevention the top priority for law enforcement in Sheridan.
