In a short meeting, SCSD#1 Board of Trustees heard from one visitor, John Bridges, who talked to the board about accountability in schools, and providing the best education to the students. He questioned the low graduation rate at SCSD#1, saying that SCSD#2 graduated 90%.

He wondered about the WY-TOPP scores as well. Bridges noted that he and his wife have often questioned the curriculum used in the schools. He expressed concern over the use of a book, The House on Mango Street, in 4th grade curriculum. The book is about a Latino family living in the Chicago barrio and the description of the book from the publisher said the book is about influence of racism, and how their family had been disenfranchised in America.

The board approved several policies on first and second readings, approved the Tongue River Childs Place building lease agreement, and approved the 2024-25 salary schedule. The board voted to table the approval of the 2024-25 student handbooks until the July meeting to allow board members to read the handbooks before voting to approve them.

The board also approved the salary for Dr. Jeff Jones, superintendent of SCSD#1. This was Jones first year as superintendent, and he had this to say about how the year went for him.

There was also an anonymous donation to the Big Horn Elementary that the board approved.

Trustee Eric Lofgren read several thank you cards to the board from the teachers who appreciated the board showing their support and providing donuts to the staff during teacher appreciation week.

Next meeting will be on July 17 at the Central Office in Ranchester.
