Michael Thomas, who teaches American government and social studies at Sheridan High School, has been named Sheridan County School District 2 Teacher of the Year for 2020.

He was formally recognized at a meeting of District 2 trustees earlier this week.

At that time, Assistant District Superintendent Scott Stults read an excerpt from the letter recommending Thomas for the Teacher of the Year honor.

Stults also read comments from one of Thomas’ students.

Thomas later spoke, thanking the board of trustees, the committee that selected him and Brent Leibach, former Sheridan High School principal, who selected him first as Sheridan High School Teacher of the Year and then the district Teacher of the Year.

He said it was a great honor, and added there are many fantastic teachers in the school district. He said he’s looking forward to getting back into the classroom.

Having received the district honors, Thomas is now in contention to be named Wyoming’s state Teacher of the Year.
