The Civic Theatre Guild opens its 69th season with the golf comedy “The Foursome,” by Canadian playwright Norm Foster.

The play takes place on a golf course as four college buddies meet up for a college reunion to play a full round of golf, after years of being apart. As expected, bets are made, beers are guzzled and golf tips are shared (whether they’ve been asked for or not). But over 18 holes, these four men realize that reuniting after years of broken contact is probably exactly what they all needed most in life right at this moment.

Since first published in 1998, Foster’s play has been seen all over North America. Adapted to film, the play’s popularity allowed Foster to rewrite the play to keep the play current with the times, and to write a “sequel” with the same name but featuring an all-female cast.

The CTG production of the play is being directed by Dan Cole. An actor and director, Cole developed a vision of the play that required the adaptation of new technology to the CTG.

Civic Theatre Guild Board President Aaron Odom praised how Cole has chosen to incorporate the images, saying in a release that Cole is doing stuff with projections that he doesn’t believe has ever been done in the Carriage House in the past.

Odom also praised Cole’s casting, consisting of Ryan Legler, Dan Richard, JJ Reign, and Carsten Wills.

Performances will begin at 7 p.m. Sept. 19 – 21, and Sept. 26 – 28. Two matinee performances will be shown at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, and Sunday, Sept. 29. All performances will be at the Carriage House Theater at 419 Delphi on the grounds of the Trail End Historic Site.
