Sheridan Community Land Trust Conservation Director Meghan Kent appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public pulse to discuss conservation easements available through SCLT.

A conservation easement protects certain natural resources and scenic values of a property in perpetuity. These easements provide various benefits to landowners, future generations and the Sheridan community.

Some easement benefits for landowners may include tax incentives, continued opportunities for traditional ranching uses, and the peace of mind that treasured lands will be protected for generations to come.

According to Kent, even if a conservation easement isn’t the right choice for some landowners, SCLT would still assist in improving the land through other efforts such as wildlife friendly fencing.

According to SCLT, conservation easements and other similar efforts benefit communities from the preservation of scenic roads and vistas, improved water and air quality, and the continuance of ranching and agriculture.
