After a late April start because of snowstorms, and enduring a wet June, construction workers on the downtown Sheridan Main Street project have caught up to schedule and they might try to press their momentum.
Main Street between Grinnell Plaza and Brundage Street closed earlier this week so that construction workers could get started on that section of the roadway.
According to the original plan, that section is supposed to be the final section of Main Street that is supposed to close for road work this year.
The remaining 3 blocks between Brundage and Coffeen Avenue are scheduled to be worked on next year, however, WYDOT is examining the possibility of working on the block between Brundage and Loucks Street this year.
WYDOT Sheridan Resident Engineer Jake Whisonant says there’s some details to sort out before a decision is made, but so far, the pros appear to outweigh the cons.
“I see the biggest pro is we get it knocked out towards the end of this year. We’re in everybody’s way just that much less next year. We’d only have 2 blocks to finish up and then we’re out of Main Street and everything could go back to normal.”
Main Street between Dow and Mandel Streets is now open to motor vehicle traffic.
On Monday (August 7th), construction crews are scheduled to start laying down fresh concrete between Mandel and Alger Streets and say they are hopeful to get that section of roadway back open on or before August 21st.
