Sheridan County’s Commissioners, in their Consent Agenda portion of their recent meeting, ratified an Emergency Facilities and Land Use Agreement between the county and the US Forest Service.

According to the agreement, the county will allow the use of grassy areas at the Sheridan County Airport for use as an emergency helipad and a portion of the taxi lane west of the main hangar area and access at the Hangar Avenue Gate.

Operational resources will use the site as a helibase, staging helicopters and helitak crews assigned to the Elk Fire.

Incident command will furnish a support trailer, sanitation services, and a water tender, and will utilize an on-site hydrant to fill the water tender intended for dust abatement and aircraft washdown.

The agreement further states that the county will receive $1,000 for each day the lands and/or facilities are used.
