The 2024 Wyoming High School State Track and Field Meet will be held this coming Thursday thru Saturday at Casper.

The Big Horn boys are the defending 2A State Champs.

Last year, the Sheridan girls placed 3rd and the boys 4th.

Sheridan HS Soccer: Back on Saturday, the Sheridan boys gave up a goal in the final seconds and lost 2-1 in the 4A East Regional Championship Game vs. Cheyenne Central.

The Broncs will have the #2 seed out of the East, heading into the state tournament, which will be played at Rock Springs.

Sheridan plays the host team in the first round on Thursday at 11am.

Sheridan Girls Lacrosse: The Sheridan Lady Mavericks won both of their only 2 home games this past Saturday, as they beat Rapid City 10-2 and Cheyenne 12-2.

Click here to see highlights of the game vs. Cheyenne.

Merit Nicholls is a senior from Sheridan High School who plays for the Lady Mavericks.

This year is the 2nd year for the team, and she says it’s already growing in popularity on the girls side, considering there were times last year that Lady Mavericks played games in which they didn’t have a full team.

The Montana High School Lacrosse Association State Tournament is this weekend at Helena for both the boys and girls.

A schedule should be coming out later today or tomorrow.

Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball: The Sheridan Troopers split 4 games this past weekend.

On Saturday, the team won both ends of a double-header at home vs. Lovell by scores of 12-0 and 15-5.

Tyler Riesen had 4 RBI’s in the first game, including a 2-run home run.

In the second game, Cael Hamrick had 5 RBI’s and was a home run short of hitting for the cycle.

Yesterday, the Troopers dropped both games at the Billings Royals.

The scores were 10-2 and 7-0.

Sheridan is now 9-8 on the season and are back at home this Sunday for 2 games against the Billings Expos.

University of Wyoming Men’s Basketball Coaching Change: There’s been a quick changing of the guard at the University of Wyoming.

Head Coach Jeff Linder has left the program to become an assistant coach at Texas Tech.

Returning to the team and taking his place will be Gillette native Sundance Wicks.

He was an assistant coach under Linder from 2020 to 2023, which includes the 2022 season, when the Pokes received an at-large bid to play in the NCAA Tournament.

This past season, Wicks was the head coach at the University of Green Bay, where he was named the Horizon League Coach of the Year and the Joe B. Hall National Coach of the Year, which is presented to the top rookie first-year head college coach at an NCAA Division 1 program.

The Phoenix went 18-14 this past season under Coach Wicks and when you consider that the team went 3-29 the year before his arrival, that’s quite a turnaround.

Coach Wicks graduated from Campbell County High School in 1999 and was the 1999 Milward Simpson Award winner.

Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies finally have something going, as the team swept a 3-game series at home vs. Texas Rangers and have won their last 4 games in a row.

On Friday, the Rocks won 4-2.

Saturday’s score was 8-3.

Hunter Goodman hit a solo home run, and later the team scored 6 runs in the 7th inning to pull away.

Yesterday, Colorado won 3-1.

Ezequiel Tovar hit a 2-run shot in that game.

The Rockies are now 12-28 on the season, and start a 9-game road trip today with 3 games at San Diego, followed by 3-games at San Francisco, and conclude with 3 games at Oakland.

Denver Nuggets Basketball/NBA Playoffs: After losing the first 2 games at home in their second round best of 7 series vs. Minnesota, the Denver Nuggets recovered by winning the most recent 2 games on the road, to tie up the series.

Friday’s score was 117-90 and yesterday’s score was 115-107.

Game 5 is tomorrow at Denver starting at 8:30pm and Game 6 is Thursday at Minnesota starting at 6:30pm.

As for the rest of the NBA playoffs, on Saturday, Boston won game 3 at Cleveland 106-93 to take a 2-1 lead, while Dallas won at home vs. Oklahoma City 105-101 to go up 2-1 in their series as well.

Yesterday, Indiana beat up New York 121-89 and that series is now tied at 2.

Colorado Avalanche Hockey/NHL Playoffs: Back on Saturday, the Colorado Avalanche lost at home in Game 3 of their second round best of 7 Stanley Cup series vs. Dallas 4-1, and trail the series 2-1.

Game 4 is tonight at Denver.

The puck drops at 7:30.

Elsewhere in the playoffs, Carolina avoided elimination on Saturday, by winning at home against the New York Rangers 4-3, but trail in their series 3-1.

Yesterday, Florida won Game 4 at Boston 3-2, and now lead their series 3-1.
