Enough was enough and the Sheridan Lady Bronc Basketball team took charge!
After enduring an 11-0 run to find themselves trailing 14-3 late in the first quarter, the girls countered with a 23-4 run of their own, to take the lead and gradually pulled away, to defeat Campbell County 65-56, in the 4A Girls State Championship Game.
It’s the teams’ first state title since 2007, and the first time they have defeated the Lady Camels in 4 tries this season.
Avery McMullen led the Lady Broncs with 17 points, including 5 3’s.
Alli Ligocki added 15 and Mesa Hanft had a double-double (10 points, 11 rebounds).
Sheridan shot 56.7% for the game (17 of 30) was 10 of 16 on their 3-point tries for 62.5%, while the Lady Camels were 19 of 42 overall (45.2%) and 8 of 26 from behind the arc (30.8%).
The Lady Broncs also found ways to get to the free throw line, as they were 21 of 31 from the charity stripe (67.7%), while the opposition was 10 of 13 (76.9%).
Sheridan finishes the season with a record of 21-6.
