Sheridan HS Basketball: The Sheridan High School Boys Basketball team not only play in their home finale this Friday, it will be a game that will determine the top 2 seeds out of the northeast quadrant for next weekend’s regional tournament.
Natrona won the first meeting vs. the Broncs about 1 month ago in Casper.
Last week, Thunder Basin did Sheridan a favor by beating the Mustangs, thus setting up this Friday’s big game.
Coach Jeff Martini says the boys know what’s on the line.
The girls game tips off first at 5:30pm Friday and the boys will follow.
As for the girls game, there’s nothing on the line as far as seeding for the regional tournament goes.
The Lady Broncs are already locked into the #2 seed.
Sheridan will host the 4A East Regional Tournament beginning next week Thursday.
Tongue River, Big Horn and Arvada-Clearmont HS Basketball: The boys and girls teams from Tongue River, and Big Horn as well as the girls team from Arvada-Clearmont are about to officially start the 2A and 1A post-season.
Both the TR and BH girls play tomorrow at 4pm.
The Lady Eagles will play Lusk and that game will be played at Pine Bluffs, while the Lady Rams will take on Burns who is the host team of the 2A East Regional Tournament.
The TR and BH boys both play tomorrow at 7pm.
The Eagles play Burns, while the Rams play at Pine Bluffs.
Friday’s schedule and matchups will be dependent on tomorrow’s results.
A-C will play tomorrow at 12-noon vs. Rock River, who is serving as the host team.
The 1A East Regional Tournament will be played at Laramie.
Sheridan County HS Wrestling: The state meet begins tomorrow at 12-noon in Casper.
Unlike past year’s, this year it’s a 3-day tournament for both boys and girls.
Last year was a 3-day event, but the girls competed on Day 1 and Day 2, while the boys competed on Day 2 and Day 3.
Tomorrow wrestlers will have their opening round of competition and the first round of wrestle-backs, if they lose that first match.
The quarter-finals and semi-finals and 2 more rounds of wrestle-backs will take place on Friday, and then on Saturday, it will be the consolation semi-finals, followed by the 3rd and 5th place matches.
Sheridan girls head coach Marcie Lane says the team has been competing in various 2-day tournaments all season, and a 3-day tournament is going to require a tougher approach and some tough discipline.
Last year in the inaugural season of girls varsity wrestling in Wyoming, the Sheridan girls placed 3rd at the state meet.
The Sheridan boys are the defending 4A State Champs.
Sheridan HS Nordic Skiing: The state meet is this coming Friday and Saturday on Casper Mountain.
Last year in their first season as a varsity team the Sheridan boys placed 6th out of 8 teams and the girls were 7th.
Sheridan County HS Indoor Track and Field: Sheridan, Tongue River and Big Horn will all compete tomorrow at Gillette.
The state meet is next weekend.
University of Wyoming Basketball: The Wyoming Cowboys were unable to recover from a poor first half of shooting and lost 76-58 at Nevada last night.
UW was only 6 of 23 shooting in the first half for 26%, including 2 of 12 from 3-point land for about 16%.
The team did much better in the second half, shooting 56% and 43% respectively, but the damage had already been done.
Brendan Wenzel led the Pokes with 17 points.
Cam Manyawu came off the bench to provide a double-double, 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Mason Walters also contributed with 11.
Wyoming is now 13-13 on the season and have a 6-7 record in the Mountain West Conference.
The team is back at home this coming Saturday vs. Boise State.
The Wyoming Cowgirls play their biggest home game of the season tonight, as first place UNLV is in Laramie.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 and you can hear that game LIVE on Fox Sports 106.3 FM.
Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche won their second straight home last night, beating Vancouver 3-1.
The Avs play again tomorrow at Detroit.
Sheridan Hawks Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks have their backs against the wall in the playoff chase.
There are 4 games remaining in the regular season, and Sheridan is currently 6 points back in the standings for the final playoff spot.
The Hawks play at Butte this coming Friday and Saturday, and then return home next weekend, to close out the regular season.
