County Accepts Federal ERAP Funding

Johnson County Commissioners, Linda Greenough, Bill Novotny and Bob Perry

Johnson County will receive just over $43,000 from the US Department of the Treasury for the Emergency Rental Assistance Program, or ERAP, to help with those in the county that have had problems paying rent, utilities or internet services due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

County Commission Chairman Bill Novotny explained more about the program during their recent meeting.

The county will partner with Family Crisis Center for distribution of funds for the program.

The program is designed to go to the property owner to pay rent or utilities, as opposed to the renter who may have fallen behind with those expenses, according to discussions at the meeting.

So the money is going to the people who decided to gamble and buy more houses than they could use or afford? Why is the government not giving me money to make up for what I didn’t win on lottery tickets? Maybe we should pay off the people who gambled by hoarding toilet paper and couldn’t resell it for 4x the price.
