Valor Academy travels to Belize in ministry mission
For the first time, Valor Academy of Sheridan participated in a ministry mission outside the United States. Thirteen students and nine adults traveled to Belize February 6 until February 13. The group was able to sight see as well as engage at The St. Hildas public education school and the Grace Instrument Christian Academy (GICA).
Academy director Amber Van Dyke said the trip fulfilled its goals by giving students meaningful ways to use their gifts to serve the local populace, build relationships, and immerse themselves in the culture.
Kaya Caster said the group was able to help lead a worship service at a local church, including supporting the children’s ministry. She added that it was especially meaningful to witness how diverse cultures worship, including the use of multiple languages. The group also ministered to the local populace. She was able to pray for a struggling family who were believers.
Ainsley Stephens said what impacted her most was watching the kid’s joy at the elementary school despite their living conditions.
This trip to Belize may not be the only one this year for a few of the students. Amber said their guide from Wonder Voyage is bringing members of his Texas church down there in June and he invited her students as well.
