SPD sees decline in DWUI arrests, but new concerns emerge
Sheridan Police Captain Tom Ringley said driving while under the influence remains the deadliest everyday threat to members of the community.
Ringley explained that the department multiplies the frequency of arrests by the worst possible outcome, emphasizing that it only takes one tragedy to alter the lives of a family and the entire community.

While citations are trending downward, Ringley said another trend is cause for concern.

The Captain credited Sheridan’s drinking establishments for adopting responsible business practices that have helped reduce impaired driving. He noted that two decades ago, many of these practices were not common, and as a patrol officer he made far more DWUI stops than officers typically do today.
Still, controlled substances remain a significant factor. Ringley said 11.3% of DUI arrests involve drugs, including marijuana and prescription medications not issued by a doctor.
Ringley emphasized that continued vigilance from law enforcement, businesses, and the community is needed to keep Sheridan’s roads safe.

This would be less of an issue if Marijuana was legalized in Wyoming like in almost every state around us. The other day I spoke with a Sheriff’s deputy about if they had any plans to adjust for the new nearest dispensary to us, and he understandably dodged the question, but later said in all the time he’s been an officer, he’s had to struggle with countless drunk people, but not once had to fight with someone high on Marijuana.
Kind of telling don’t you think?

Typical transplant comment or a greener. Police can write tons of citations on North Main punks racing their rice burners to the truck stop every weekend. Transplants are bringing their west coast problems with them to Sheridan. 10 years from now you won’t recognize the place. Sad.
