Flood Watch Issued For Sheridan County And Big Horn Mountains – Monday, April 28, 2025

The current snowmelt combined with a weather system in the area is creating some flooding concerns.
The National Weather Service in Billings, MT has issued a flood watch for Sheridan County in Wyoming, the Southern portion of the Crow Indian Reservation in Montana and the Big Horn Mountains in both states.
The watch is in effect from 9pm Sunday (April 27th), and will last all day on Monday.
The forecast calls for rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches, while elevations above 6,000 feet will see heavy wet snow and that area will also be under a winter storm warning.
Twelve-to-20 inches of snow is projected.
Travel on US Highway 14 in the Burgess Junction area could be hazardous.
The weather service says excessive runoff may result in minor flooding of streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations close to the foothills.
Some roads may become impassable, and is it recommended that residents move equipment and livestock to higher ground away from waterways.
Recent burn scars, such as the Elk Fire area, may be more susceptible to flooding.
