Noise at Sheridan Airport to Keep Birds Out of Planes’ Way

Published

on

Those hearing loud booms at the Sheridan County Airport in the next few weeks need not be worried that something nefarious is happening there.

According to Airport Manager Robert Gill, the reason for the noise is to move migratory birds from out of the way of aircraft entering and leaving the facility.

Gill gives more details on what is happening and why.

Gill said the propane cannons are a non-lethal means of moving the birds out of harm’s way and to protect the aircraft.

The firing of the cannons will be stopped once the bird activity at the airport becomes less of a problem for flight operations, usually a few weeks, according to Gill.
