U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis issued a statement following the Federal Trade Commission’s new finalized rule that complicates the car buying process for Wyoming consumers and limits personal choice. Lummis said the FTC’s final rule will not help Wyoming consumers buy a vehicle, but instead further complicate the purchase with burdensome regulations that not only lengthen the process but limit consumer choice, and at a time when record inflation rates are harming Wyoming families, we should be creating policies that stimulate the economy and make it easier for consumers to make purchases, not abruptly implementing rules that limit Wyoming citizens and fundamentally alter a trillion-dollar industry.

Last September, Lummis led five of her colleagues in writing a letter to FTC Chair Lina Khan demanding answers on the FTC’s proposed rule regarding the dealer financing model for motor vehicles.  This month, the FTC announced the finalization of the CARS rule, which threatens to limit consumer choice and increases the amount of record keeping required.
