A number of people were out traveling on the 4th of July weekend, and Yellowstone National Park was busy as a result.
The park reports an 8-percent increase in visitors this past Friday thru Monday, compared to the same weekend in 2019.
Because of the COVID pandemic, the park does not use numbers from 2020, and in this report, they are comparing the days of the weekend, and not the actual dates.
Friday visitation was down 10%.
Saturday’s and Sunday’s numbers were up 4% and 8% respectively.
The big increase was on the Monday after the 4th of July weekend.
2021 numbers for the Monday after the 4th were up 33% compared to the Monday after the 4th in 2019. (12,825 vs. 9,630)
Those numbers include a 47% increase at the North Entrance, and a 45% increase at the East entrance.
The west entrance ended up being the busiest of the 5 entrances to the park with a total of 21,587 visitors over the course of the 4 days in 2021.
That’s up from 19,975 visitors in 2019 or about an 8½% increase.
