JCSD1 Transportation Reports Minor Problems on Buses

In the written report to the Johnson County School Board for October, Transportation Department Director Bill McKenzie reported some minor issues on school buses so far this school year, mostly kids not remaining seated or not being “properly buckled.”

He said substitute drivers were being encouraged to ride as bus monitors to encourage proper bus behavior.

The department is working with school leadership to communicate and enforce expectations of students when riding buses.

McKenzie said school activities are in full swing, and he district has experienced only minor mechanical issues with buses, unlike other districts in the state.

JCSD1 has been called out a number of times to assist other districts to help guarantee safe student travel, and was also able to help with a tour bus and 52 passengers that were stranded on the mountain in the middle of the night.

He added, “Wyoming is fortunate to have a state-funded transportation system for public schools. This allows all districts to work together in transporting students safely and efficiently in the state. We have relied upon other districts in the past and do our best to help when we can.”
