While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, SPD Chief Travis Koltiska and Captain Tom Ringley informed listeners that alcohol offenses during Sheridan’s homecoming week showed numbers closer to a typical summer weekend.
In total, SPD officers issued two DUIs, seven public intoxication, seven minor in possession, three befouling (public urination) and one interference citation during festivities revolving around the rodeo. Ringley also reported that no citations for fighting were issued during this time period.
The SPD seeks assistance from the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office, the Wyoming Highway Patrol and the Gillette PD to help maintain public safety during the largest event in Sheridan.
Koltiska said the effort by all the departments during the week was extraordinary with each law enforcement agency focusing on their strengths.
A grant to prevent underage drinking in the amount of approximately $6,000 funded the extra staff which freed up SPD staff to remain on call for the community, according to Ringley.
