Sheridan HS Cross Country: A Sheridan sophomore speedster put himself in the record books to win his first individual cross country state championship.
Eli Balkenbush crossed the finish line at this past Saturday’s state meet in Cheyenne, with a time of 15 minutes 23.9 seconds, which is a new course record.
He says his main competition was from another sophomore from Cheyenne Central, and in a sense, let him do most of the hard work on a tough course.
Sheridan had 5 runners place in the top 8 which gets them automatic all-state honors.
Head Coach Art Baures says the team let Balkenbush do his thing and as for the rest of the group, there was a plan to stay together for most of the race.
As for the Sheridan girls, they placed 5th in the 4A team standings.

University of Wyoming Football: There was some talk about how well the Wyoming Cowboys’ offense did in this past weekend’s win against Air Force, but the Mountain West Conference took notice of one player on defense.
Steven Perez was named the Conference’s freshman of the week.
On top of holding Air Force to 14 points, he recorded a career high 17 tackles, 10 of which were solo, and he recovered a fumble that led to an eventual touchdown.
The 17 tackles in a game is tied for 5th most in a single game nationally this season.
