One Sheridan High School Track athlete did so well to impress last year that a college is giving him a chance to compete with some former team-mates.

Josh Fried has signed his notice of intent to join the team at Black Hills State University, in Spearfish, South Dakota.

Events he might compete in, includes jumps, long distance hurdles and possibly the pentathlon and/or the decathlon.

He was 4th last year at the Wyoming State Meet, in the 4A Boys 300 meter hurdles race.

The senior has not been able to compete this season, because he tore his ACL and MCL during the football season.

Fried adds he’s grateful that the Black Hills State Coaching Staff stuck with him through his injury and joining the team gives him a chance to reconnect with some former Bronc teammates.

“It was kind of a shot in the dark for our coach, but I think he’s seen my times and the person I am, so we’ll just hope that counts for him. It was close and then I knew some Sheridan guys that had been there, are there still and it just seems like a great family to be with.”

He says he is considering majoring in history education.
