Sheridan HS Boys Basketball Wins State Championship: The Sheridan High School Boys Basketball Team got a 23-year old monkey off their back.
The Broncs defeated Natrona County 52-47 this past Saturday in the Wyoming High School 4A State Championship Game, to win their first state title since 2003 and only the 3rd state championship in school history.
The championship game was different in the sense that Sheridan had won every other game by 15 points or more, but found themselves in unfamiliar territory, when the opposition tied the score with 6 minutes to go.
Senior Nate Miner says the Broncs did not crack under the championship pressure.
Head Coach Jeff Martini says his team did not dwell on the sudden comeback and instead were more eager to respond.
Sheridan finishes the season with a record of 24-1.

Sheridan HS Girls Basketball: The Lady Broncs ended up going 1-2 in their games played at the State Tournament, losing to Star Valley in the Consolation Championship Game, to finish the season with a record of 14-12.
Buffalo HS Boys and Girls Basketball: Both the Buffalo boys and girls teams went 0-2 at the state tournament.
The Bison’s final record is 17-9, while the Lady Bison’s final record is 13-13.
Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks are in the finals of the NA3HL Frontier Division Playoffs.
Back on Friday at home against Rapid City, the team was trailing 3-1 with about 11 minutes to go in the 3rd period, then rallied to tie the score and force overtime.
Max Krueger would score a little more than 3 minutes into the extra period, to lift Sheridan to a 4-3 win, and 2-zero sweep of the series.
The Hawks are still waiting to see who their next opponent will be.
In the other playoff series, Great Falls won Game 1 on Friday at Helena.
Game 2 was supposed to be played on Saturday at Great Falls, but bad weather and roads forced that game to be postponed to yesterday, which Helena ended up winning, to force the deciding Game 3, which is scheduled for tonight at Helena.
Sheridan will play the winner.
Game 1, regardless of opponent, is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday on the road.
Game 2 will be played in the Whitney Rink, inside the M&M Center on Friday.
The Hawks would host Game 3 on Saturday if needed.
The winner of this series advances to the Fraser Cup Tournament.
University of Wyoming Men’s Basketball: The Wyoming Cowboys will play in the post season.
The Pokes accepted a bid to play in the National Invitation Tournament, more commonly called the NIT.
It’s their first invite to any kind of post season event since 2022, when the team played in the NCAA tournament.
The Brown and Gold are scheduled to play tomorrow at Wichita State, with a 5pm tip time.
If UW wins that game, they would next play the winner between Davidson and Oklahoma State.
Mountain West Conference Men’s Basketball: Four other Mountain West teams are playing in the NIT.
UNLV is scheduled to play tomorrow at UC-Irvine.
On Wednesday, Colorado State is at home against St. Joseph’s, Nevada is at home vs. Murray State and New Mexico is at home against Sam Houston.
Utah State won the Mountain West Conference men’s basketball tournament, and with that win, the team claimed an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
The Aggies were seeded #9 in the west region and will take on Villanova on Friday in San Diego.
As for San Diego State, their season is over.
The Aztecs were the #2 seed in the Mountain West Conference Tournament, lost in the championship game, and were left out of the Big Dance.
The program declined an NIT bid, because they would not be able to play a home game, since their arena is being used for the NCAA Tournament.
Mountain West Conference Women’s Basketball: Colorado State is in the NCAA tournament as a #12 seed and will play on Friday against Michigan State.
San Diego State is in the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament and will play UC-Irvine in the first round.
Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets lost on Saturday at the LA Lakers 127-125 in overtime.
The Nuggets are next scheduled to play tomorrow at home vs. Philadelphia.
Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche lost on Saturday at Winnipeg 3-1.
The Avs are next scheduled to play today at home vs. Pittsburgh.
The puck drops at 7:30pm.
Colorado Rockies Pre-Season Baseball: The Colorado Rockies went 1-3 in games played this past weekend.
On Friday, the team lost at home vs. Texas 9-4.
Saturday was a split squad day.
One game was an 8-4 loss at Milwaukee.
Jordan Beck hit a solo home run in that game.
The other game resulted in a 4-3 win at home against the Chicago Cubs.
Braxton Fulford hit a walk-off 2 run home run to win it.
The Rocks closed out the weekend yesterday with a 6-5 loss at the LA Angels.
Hunter Goodman hit a 3-run blast for the cause.
Colorado is off today and the team is scheduled to play tomorrow at home vs. Seattle.
