Sheridan Lady Hawk Amateur Hockey: The Winter Sports season is starting to wind down on the basketball court, the wrestling mat, the ski slopes and on the ice.
The Sheridan Lady Hawk Amateur hockey team will play their final 4 home games this weekend as they play 2 games vs. Pinedale and 2 games vs. Jackson.
Those are the 2 teams ahead of Sheridan in the standings, heading into the final weekend of the regular season and a weekend sweep could potentially allow the Lady Hawks to claim the #1 seed for the upcoming state tournament, by virtue of having the head-to-head tie-breaker.
The 2-time defending state champs played Pinedale and Jackson on the road at the beginning of the season in November, losing 1 game and tying the other vs. both opponents.
Senior Riley Mudd says a lot has changed between then and now.
Start times vs. Pinedale are at 7pm Friday and at 9am Saturday.
The games vs. Jackson begin at 6pm Saturday and at 9:30am Sunday.
Sheridan HS Girls Basketball: The Sheridan High School girls picked up 2 big wins on the road this past weekend.
The 2nd of the 2 was the biggest as the Lady Broncs beat Laramie…a team that beat them in Sheridan 3 weeks prior.
That puts Sheridan in a decent spot, where if they can win their last 2 games and get a little bit of help, the team could finish as high as 3rd in the 4A East, heading into the regional tournament.
One pattern that has emerged with the team is that the girls tend to have a great start to a game, and then have trouble maintaining that momentum.
Head Coach Chris Wagner says when Sheridan can keep things going, the team is hard to stop.
The Lady Broncs play this coming Friday at Campbell County and then play their home finale next Friday vs. Thunder Basin.
University of Wyoming Men’s Basketball: The Wyoming Cowboys won last night at home vs. Fresno State 92-82.
The Pokes shot 54% for the game and knocked down 15 3’s.
Freshman Nasir Meyer led the way with 22 points.
Damarion Dennis and Khaden Bennett each chipped in with 17.
Uriyah Rojas put in 11 and Leland Walker put in 10 for the cause.
Wyoming is now 14-12 on the season and have a 5-10 record in the Mountain West Conference.
The Brown and Gold are next scheduled to play this coming Saturday at Grand Canyon University.
