Sheridan Hoop Jam 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament: Sheridan will be a basketball haven tomorrow and Sunday.
The annual 3-on-3 hoop jam tournament will take place in the high school parking lot, as roughly 75 teams will play on about 20 courts that have been painted there.
The event has been going on since 2001 and the proceeds have been used to fund an athletic trainer position at Sheridan High School and purchase some necessary equipment.
Competition both tomorrow and Sunday is scheduled to begin at 9am.
Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball: The Sheridan Troopers have about 2 months worth of games under their belts, and with graduation almost out of the way, the team is about ready to turn the page and play games on a more regular basis.
The team is 17-9 on the season and won 4 out of 5 games played over the course of the Memorial Day weekend at Gillette.
Head Coach Austin Cowen says as of late, things are starting to come together.
Sheridan is scheduled to play 4 games at Billings this weekend.
On Saturday, they will take on the Royals at 12-noon, followed by the Scarlets at 2:30pm.
On Sunday, the Troopers play Idaho Falls at 12:30pm and then play the Royals again at 3.
Both Billings teams are starting their season this weekend, because Montana now has varsity high school baseball.
The Scarlets won last year’s AA Northwest Regional Tournament and became the first Montana team in more than 60 years to qualify for the Legion World Series.
As for Idaho Falls, the Bandits started their season this past weekend.
They won it all back in 2019 and again in 2021.
Sheridan HS Track and Field: Lightning can strike the same place twice and history can repeat itself.
In the finals of last year’s 4A Boys 100 meter dash, Chance Morris of Sheridan edged out Tegan Krause of Cheyenne Central by 1 1-hundredths of a second for the win.
Fast forward to this year…same race, same top 2, and same result as Morris prevailed by 1 1-hundredths of a second.
The Bronc senior says he figured Krause had not forgotten and describes this year’s race.
History repeated itself in more than 1 way, because in the preliminary race both last year and this year, Krause beat Morris, both times, but Morris got the ones that mattered.
Morris has signed to compete on the track team at the University of Wyoming.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies were off yesterday and start a 3-game series today at the New York Mets.
First pitch today is scheduled for 5:10pm.
Tomorrow’s game starts at 2:10pm, and Sunday’s game at 11:40am.
On Monday, the Rocks start a 3-game series at Miami.
NBA Playoffs: The New York Knicks stayed alive by winning last night at home, in Game 5 of the best of 7 Eastern Conference Finals series vs. Indiana 111-94, but trail in the series 3-games-to-2.
Game 6 is tomorrow in Indianapolis.
Game 7, if needed, would be Monday at New York.
NHL Playoffs: For the second year in a row, the Stanley Cup Finals will be between the Edmonton Oilers and the defending champ Florida Panthers.
Edmonton eliminated Dallas last night 6-3, to win the best of 7 Western Conference Finals series 4-games-to-1.
The Panthers had home ice advantage last year, but this time around the Oilers have it, as they will host game 1 on Wednesday.
Last year’s Stanley Cup final was a classic, as Florida won the first 3 games, only to watch Edmonton storm back and win the next 3 games to tie the series, but the Panthers would prevail in an epic Game 7.
The last time the same 2 teams met in the Stanley Cup Finals in back-to-back years, was in 2008 and 2009, between Detroit and Pittsburgh.
The Red Wings won the first time, and the Penguins won the rematch.
