Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball: The Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball Team got a pair of statement wins yesterday to open up conference play, as the team would sweep a double-header at home vs. 4-time defending state champion Cheyenne Post 6.

In Game 1, Sheridan scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first inning and held off a Cheyenne comeback to win 5-3.

Starting pitcher Avon Barney almost went the distance on the mound, striking out 7 in the process.

In Game 2, the Troopers scored 5 in the bottom of the first and 3 more in the bottom of the 5th to complete the double-header sweep, winning 8-3.

Dyson Murner had 3 RBI’s and Frankie Maestri pitched 6 1/3rd innings in relief.

Sheridan Head Coach Austin Cowen says yesterday’s 2 wins were the icing on the cake, because the team has played 12 games in the last 11 days, and the consistent play has paid off.

Sheridan is now 20-11 on the season, and have this weekend off from competition.

The team will next play Tuesday of next week in a home double-header vs. Miles City, Montana.

High School Rodeo State Finals: The Wyoming State Finals Rodeo starts today and runs through Friday at Rock Springs.

Competitors earn points based on what place they finish in at each rodeo throughout the fall and spring seasons.

The top 4 in each event qualify for the High School National Finals Rodeo next month, which is also in Rock Springs.

Long story short, for those who are on the bubble in the standings, this is their last chance.

Checking the standings heading into the state finals rodeo, Abagail Olson of Sheridan is in 1st in the barrel racing and pole bending.

Kolby Smith of Sheridan is in 5th place in bull riding and trails 4th place by 3 ½ points.

Colson Myers of Buffalo leads the steer wrestling, and is 4th in the tie down roping.

Cam Johnson of Buffalo and his partner out of Big Piney are the current leaders in the team roping.

Wyoming High School Shrine Bowl 2024: Practice is well underway in Casper for this Saturday’s Shrine Bowl football game.

The annual All-Star game between the North and the South also serves as a fundraiser for the Shriner’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Eleven players from North-Central Wyoming will play for the North team.

That includes 4 from Sheridan, 3 from Big Horn, 1 from Tongue River and 3 from Buffalo.

The game will be played this coming Saturday at Natrona County High School.

Kickoff is scheduled for 2pm.

Colorado Rockies Baseball: Hits and run production have become an issue lately for the Colorado Rockies.

Last night the Rocks only managed 3 hits and produced 1 run, which was not enough as the team lost at home vs. Cincinnati 4-1.

Colorado will try to avoid a 3-game sweep, as the 2 teams conclude the series today starting at 1:10pm.

After today, the Rockies will embark on a 7-game road trip, which will involve 4 games at St. Louis, followed by 3 at Minnesota.
