Michael Jay Bohnsack
Michael Jay Bohnsack passed away on August 28th, 2025, in San Diego, California.
Michael was born on April 26th, 1971. In the early part of 1973, he was received into his adopted family, Father The Late Jerry F. Bohnsack, Mother Dixie L. Avery and Sister Kristi Bohnsack.
Michael grew up in Sheridan, a creative, sweet, sensitive soul, full of wonder and curiosity. After leaving home at seventeen, he traveled the country, working a variety of jobs that he enjoyed, before landing in San Diego, CA. He resided there for approximately 30 years.
Innately an Artist, as a kid, he was almost never seen without paper and pencil in hand drawing for hours at a time. As an adult he made his way in San Diego, working primarily as a Tattoo Artist and was commissioned by a heavy metal band to create an album cover. And later was commissioned to create an extremely intricate drawing, of which only 10 were allotted.
As most adopted children, Michael suffered the trauma’s of his first couple years, and the emotional wounds followed him. In his pre-teens, he met adult and peer pressure to use alcohol and other drugs, as many do. When pressure from both adult and peers collided with unresolved pain, this boy gave way, and before he knew it, slid into addiction. Unfortunately, he was only 11 when he started using. Later, he suffered many physical injuries, losing an eye and the ability to walk, hence living with another kind of pain. While Michael lived a number of his years clean and sober, in the end, while alone, died by drugs.
He is preceded in death by his Dad, the Late Jerry F. Bohnsack and nephew Baby Boy Reimers, Grandparents Jim and Martha Avery and Chancy and Opal Bohnsack.
Michael leaves behind his Mother, Dixie L Avery, Sister Kristi Bohnsack, Niece Melissa Reimers and Great Nephew Carter Reimers all of Sheridan.
Michael grew into a man of integrity, strength and grace. A man who knew what really mattered. A man of love. “There but for the grace of God, go I”
