Starr Dolores O’Dell

Starr Dolores O’Dell (née Mauck) passed away on June 16, 2025, surrounded by many of her loving family. Born on May 23, 1943, in Buffalo, Wyoming, she was the oldest of three children of Harold and Marjorie (Finley) Mauck. Starr, her sister Dawn, and baby brother Gary grew up in Buffalo and Sheridan. She attended Sheridan High School, where she met John O’Dell at a football game. The two married shortly after graduation, had three kids, and remained together for nearly 63 years until her death.
Starr balanced being a stay-at-home mom by working at the 4-U Drive-in, McDonald’s (Conrads) department store, and the Sheridan Press. Starr cherished spending time with her family, playing cards, watching her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids play sports, acting, performing in band and orchestra, attending recitals, and singing. She was a lifelong fan of the Denver Broncos, University of Wyoming athletics, and professional tennis. In her younger days, Starr enjoyed bowling, fishing, garage sales, and collecting Hummels and other items. Her lone vice was gambling, betting up to a nickel in Keno and slot machines. Starr, Dawn, and Gary enjoyed gaming trips to Laughlin, Vegas, Black Hawk, and Deadwood.
Survivors include her husband, John; sister, Dawn; daughter, Chris Cline (Dean), and sons, Shawn (Lisa) and Kevin; grandchildren, Brandy, Cody, Jamie, Rebecca, Erica, Will, Piper, and Fletcher; great-grandchildren Luke, Evie, Josh, Rachel, Magnolia, Liam, Ashyr, Charlotte, Olivia, and Carter; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and grandson, Justin.
We will miss her cooking, baking, sense of humor, sharing family history and stories, and devotion to her family.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 23, at 1 p.m. at Harness Funeral Home, Buffalo, Wyoming, with interment next to her parents and brother at Willow Grove Cemetery in Buffalo. A light reception will follow at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Everything Beautiful Thrift Store, P.O. Box 6, Lame Deer, MT 59043.
Online condolences may be made to www.sheridanfuneral.com. Arrangements are under the care of Sheridan Funeral Home.

Very sad to hear of the passing of Starr. She was in the same class (Or close) to me growing up in Buffalo. It was always nice to see her and chat when we were both out and about.
