Applications to be considered for 2020-2021 Johnson County/City of Buffalo One Percent funds will be taken until 5pm on Friday, January 24th.

Applications can be turned in to either the Johnson County Commissioner’s Office, or Buffalo City Hall.

The 1% optional sales tax committee is an eight-member group representing the entire county and the individually incorporated towns of Buffalo and Kaycee that review the applications and make recommendations to the county commissioners and city council for funding.

Both governmental bodies have in the past earmarked anywhere from $500,000 to $1 million in funding each that will be distributed to entities such as the Johnson County Family YMCA, St. Francis Animal Shelter, city and county governmental departments and others.

According to Buffalo Mayor Shane Schrader, the amount of funding available for the upcoming cycle isn’t yet known, but both the Buffalo City Council and the Johnson County Commission will take the amount of one-percent sales tax revenues available when known, review the committee’s recommendations and make final decisions later this spring.

Applications and guidelines for applying are available at city hall and the county courthouse, or online at:
