Sheridan PD cite suspect in possession of counterfeit $50 bills

After receiving several reports of counterfeit U.S. currency – $50 bills – being passed in Sheridan, the Sheridan Police Department has identified a suspect and cited the individual with theft. 

From Sept. 16, to Sept. 19, 2020, the department received eight reports of counterfeit currency being passed at local businesses, according to Sheridan Police Lieutenant Travis Koltiska.

Through the investigation, a potential suspect was identified as Benjamin Deck. Deck was contacted by Sheridan Police detectives and denied any knowledge of counterfeit currency. During the contact, multiple counterfeit bills were found in his possession. 

Deck has been issued multiple citations for Theft for the passing of the counterfeit bills. The origin of the bills is still under investigation.
